Lots of Joshua Trees

Oh yeah - I did come here hikin' on that trip I did back In January 2018. Great fun, short trail. Just saw a video of it on youtube and it reminded me. Sat and had a smoke on the exact same spot from the video. I did a little scrambling around but probably didn't get to the exact summit. Love to be back there right now...

Ronatember: Freezing Snow on Burnt Joshua Mojave Trees  Sucess!

2 hrs C2C, class 1 hiking was easy but cold as f**k, jeez man it is already near winter in the desert. The fire that raged through the Joshua trees is both beautiful and devastating, pretty cool to see snow on cacti :) The true summit required a short class 5 solo, maybe just 25-30 feet, fun not too dangerous of you fall!

7 peaks in a day  Sucess!

Mescal Range HP, Climax Peak, Kokoweef Peak, Striped Mountain, Slingshot Mountain, Kessler Peak, Tuetonia Peak

Note: the chimney option from the described notch is only class 3 (my opinion) with zero exposure.

Fun little walk  Sucess!

We two souls were the only ones on this trail all day. A butterfly landed on my arm and didn't want to leave. The Joshua tree forest was fascinating. Great place to get to know the Preserve.

Once Again, with Gusto  Sucess!

This time with Lorraine. She had some trouble with the step across or stem crack, but was able to drop into it and climb from there to the top. From here we went "across the street" to climb Kessler Peak.

Teutonia & Cima  Sucess!

Climbed all over this peak and then ran up to the "top" of Cima just for grins. Good fun rock and lots of different routes to be found.

Dinky, and I'm glad

No, I don't do class 5, so I didn't go up on the summit blocks. This was my 3rd little climb of the day, after Amboy Crater and Kelso sand dunes (by far the hardest). Just an easy little walk up to the end of the trail to wind up my post law school week in the desert.

Happy Thanksgiving  Sucess!

A fun little place. Part of a 4 day visit to the Mojave National Preserve. Hiked up this peak right around sunset - and camped at the nearby Sunset roadside camping area.

Love the MNP  Sucess!

Had a day to kill the Victorville area, so I headed into the preserve. Pleasant day, nice and cool, not too windy. Enjoyable approach walk and fun scrambling, excellent solitude.

Central and South summit  Sucess!

Climbed Teutonia peak on the way back from Kelso Dunes hike.
This hike is very short but there are some class 3-4 spot near the peak. (only 20-40 ft)
I made Central Peak and found the register but I didn't sign since the can and book was in bad shape and didn't want to break it. Somebody needs to bring new register box and book.
I found desert fox near the South peak. Its always fun to see any animals in the desert.

Nice scramble  Sucess!

First of a few on a great Thanksgiving weekend in the Mojave. Fun scrambling to all three summits. Put my hand in a cactus on one of them.

Cold and Wet  Sucess!

Started at the trailhead at around 2pm. The weather had been horrible all day long and we could see snow on Teutonia. Easy hike to the ridge. We had some issue figuring out what was the true summit block. We climbed the central summit block thinking that was the summit and the looked down the ridge and thought those were the high points. Because of that, we didn't spend much time on top and went back down. The snow on the rock made for sketchy scrambling, but that just made it more interesting.

Pleasurable

I opted not to temporarily abandon my 2 dogs to tag the highpoint. The ease of this hike was a pleasure on a clear day with many snow patches and several inches of snow cover near the peaks. This is a good one for hitting before or after other peaks in the area the same day. It would also be good with the family, for a rest day, or to just enjoy the views, scrambles and desert plants.

Snow!  Sucess!

Tom Scott & I visited on our way out to Castle (Dove). Walked out in about 6" to 8" of snow. Did the north summit first, then shuffled through deeper snow over to the middle and south summits. Quite the experience to be surrounded by all the joshua trees covered in snow!
