The AWESOME Karstens Ridge & Harper Glacier-Mount McKinley, AK

This image, taken from our Cessina, is frightening. It shows the original route above the Mundrow Glacier that many of the original climbers used. Today, most climbers used the West Buttress route pioneered by Bradford Washburn. Karstens ridge, and variations, is still used by some climbers, although the approach is longer.

Hi Bernard....

You have some awesome pictures. Is that the summit of Denali up there?

Ridge

Great shot! Imagine the original successful first ascent team cut steps for almost 3 miles with primitive gear by today's standards.
