Bode’s last stand
A great day turned into a rough one. I got a new 4Runner, my dream car, and took 3 dogs on a day hike into the Oquirrhs. The day started out great. We summitted Butterfield Peaks, and then headed for Sunrise Peak. My sister’s dog started slowing down, and we left him behind at the saddle before Sunrise. I took my dog, Niko, and my girlfriend’s dog, Roxy up to Sunrise and then over to Kelsey. When we got back down to the saddle where we left my sister’s dog, he was moving really slowly. With 2.5 miles to go, he keeled over, and I carried him on my shoulders back to the car. His heart was still beating, but everything else was showing signs of death. He died later that night.

From Butterfield Pass
#1 and #2 06-10-24 From the pass and then on to Kelsey Peak and White Pine Peak before returning over this peak again on my return. A pleasant day with a high of 88 degrees forecast for the valleys. Some snow on certain ridges but never needed to use microspikes. This climb was part of my 80in80 project.

Great start to the Oquirrhs
#1: 6/30/18 from Rose Canyon (17 mi RT) Gorgeous views along the SE ridge brought me back for a full summer of Oquirrh hikes
#2: 7/15/18 from Butterfield Pass, before continuing to White Pine and Kelsey

Butterfield to Lowe
Started at Butterfield Pass and crossed over the Peaks on the way to Kelsey, Lowe, and Rocky. Beautiful views of the Oquirrhs, especially of Lowe Peak to the south. We missed the trail cutoff and had to bushwhack a bit to get on the main trail. Make sure to look left at the beginning of the right fork!

Butterfield Peaks
Hiked from the pass in Butterfield Canyon. Continued on to White Pine Peak, Kelsey Peak, Rocky Peak, and Lowe Peak. Very long day, roundtrip was 15.8 miles and 6,600+ ft elevation gain. Very relieved that there were trails undercutting Kelsey Peak and White Pine Peak, intersecting their adjacent saddles. That probably saved me close to a 1000 feet on the way back. Awesome hike, though. Not another person out there.
Climbed from Butterfield Canyon. Also did White Pine and Kelsey the same day. Peaceful day.

Keep going to Kelsey!!
I made a mistake approaching this peak. Instead of taking the west most trail, I took the east most trail from the pass. I went up a gully that looked like it was a trail and got the ridge. This actually seemed a lot shorter than the trail you were supposed to take. I hit the summit and was greeted with smokey views. I found the view of the southern Oquirrhs spectacular from here. I hit the ridge west and continued on to Kelsey. I saw a hiker coming off of Butterfield Peaks as I was hitting summit. I didn't expect to run into people up there.

Butterfield Peaks
After visiting family, Kim, my dad, and I hiked up Butterfield Peaks in the Oquirrh Mountains. I had not climbed any peaks in the Oquirrh Mountains since climbing Lowe Peak on May 11 1996. We didn't bring a map or information, so we got on the wrong trail for a short distance, but we found the right trail and hiked to the summit rather quickly.
Once on the summit we hiked towards White Pine and Kelsey Peaks, but we didn't make it all the way to the summit of those peaks since we ran out of time. It was a great hike.

The long way
Tried to do it yesterday but discovered that the Butterfield Canyon road was closed. Came up with a new plan for today and started at Yellow Fork Canyon County Park. Also did Breccia Knob and Sheep Ridge. Breccia Knob was sort of on the way, but Sheep Ridge was painful. Beautiful day and no one else around.

Easy Evening
I was surprised at how well groomed the trail is. I hiked past the high peak to try to find the large cairn that was mentioned. It has either fallen over or has been knocked over. It is only about 1-2 feet tall now. =(
Hiking over to White Pine / Kelsey looks like a lot of fun. Will have to come back earlier in the day.
Hiked again on 9/13/2014

Short & Sweet
Hiked to the top with my 5-year old son. I had to pick him up and carry him across some snow near the end, but other than that it was an easy hike. Nice views of snow-covered Lowe Peak to the south.
Hiked from the pass. It was a hot day and this is probably why no one else was around. Good view of the Oquirrh Mountains and not much snow left on the high peaks.

Golden memories...
Geez, I remember climbing them as a kid growing up in Tooele.
Me and the neighbor kid rode our bikes up Middle Canyon to the pass. We came across a 4X4 who was stuck alongside the road.
After helping the dude out, we continued up to the peaks.
I remember seeing a very huge "termite mound" just below the
main summit. Yeah, the views were incredible.
