Fun hike
Fun hike with a great view on top. Got up to the summit in 3 hrs 45 after half an hour on the cables. Coming down the cables was a blast, assumed a rappel stance and went down real fast! Took 9 hrs car to car after an hour on the summit and another hour hanging on a riverbank near Little Yosemite Valley backpacker's camp.

Unforgettable!
Started at 6am and took 13 hours...wowza. Had a group of 7 with 4 permits and some people with knees that hurt on the way down. Epic adventure and would do it again.

Worth the trip
Good thing the cable system is old, the nanny state would never put them in now.

Will never forget it
That feeling when starting the descent is truly something else.
The click, clack, clock of water bottles falling down the granite is seared into my memory (I wonder if they'll remain at the base forever... seems like a common enough occurrence that the NPS would take steps to alleviate the impact).
Moderate numbers on a weekday before those permits were laid down. Wonder if the crowds've been cut any.

Never again
Standard summer day on the cables, I would imagine. Camped in Little Yosemite Valley and got up early to avoid crowds at the base. Loved basically every moment of it, but will never attempt again. Crippling fear coming down the cables.

Beautiful Day
First real hike post back surgery. Beautiful hike from start to finish. Looking forward to getting back to the old me.

Got way ahead of my climbing partners, walked up the cables, checked out the summit, went down, waited for my friends, and went back up again.

Crowds Coming Down While Going Up
Started around 8 a.m. and actually missed most of the crowds hiking up. Got a little congested on the cables but it was a breeze coming down. I think the cables are definitely more intense than the chains on Angels Landing in Zion National Park.

Almost
On the second day of a backpack from Clouds Rest, I attempted Half Dome. The cables defeated me but it was a great hike/climb!
I just didn't have the arm strength, so after muscle failure in my left arm, decided to rest and come on down the cables. Got about a third of the way up! Having little to no footing made for a hard pull up the cable. But hey it was a great trip just the same, got the permit as an add-on to my trip, wasn't really expecting to get it.

Loop it out
This is the only way to hike Half Dome (via cables). We went up the Mist Trail and came down the John Muir trail. 9 hours car to car.

Missed the wedding!
On July 15, 2015, I ascended Half-Dome, Yosemite' most recognizable landmark for the third time. I'm so close, why knot? LOL The route is definitely not for individuals suffering from acrophobia. During my descent, I encountered a young man donning a huge backpack. Asked why he didn't leave his pack on the saddle, he replied his pack contained wedding attire for his fiancee and himself. Yes, a wedding occurred atop Half-Dome that day. A professional photographer posted the wedding pictures on the Internet.

Narrowly avoided a thunderstorm
Just reached the summit when we heard thunder, everybody quickly descended the cables before it began to rain.

Second trip up to Half Dome, first when the cables were up. Great view from the top, of course!

Great experience
Glad to have done it well before the heavy crowds and lottery system we have today, even in 1998 it was somewhat crowded on the cables.

Cables Route
Went up the John Muir Trail and went back down the Mist Trail, and realized I should have done it the other way around just like most people do, upon seeing over a thousand people on the trail near Vernal Falls. The scenery at the beginning and end of this hike was awesome, but I didn't care much for the sandy trail in the middle. The cables were a lot of fun.

cables down in the fall
With the wife. Almost turned around when we got to the shoulder. With the cables down, it looked daunting. Then down came a lady of at least 60 and she encouraged us to do it. A view beyond words. Hate to be up there in a storm.
