The Castle

The Castle

The Castle, with its shattered-looking ramparts, rises prominently in Capitol Reef National Park near the Visitor Center and is one of the park's most recognizable sights. It is not close to being the highest or largest formation in the park, but its features make it one of the most dramatic. Here, golden cottonwoods along the Fremont River help frame this spectacular peak. View in "Orig" for better detail. Capitol Reef National Park, UT-- October 2009

Great picture Bob!

This must be something to see in person since you managed to do such a great job of photographing it! Bravo!

Re: Great picture Bob!

Thanks a lot, Kathy. It was an amazing sight, and an amazing place. Capitol Reef has everything that's great about southern Utah but without the bustle of places like Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Arches.

Agh!!!

Bob,

This photo took my breath away when I opened it to full size. Thank you for sharing.

PS: When are you and the wife just gonna chuck it and move out west with the rest of us wierdos?

Re: Agh!!!

Thanks, Sarah. We were actually very close to committing to move to Nevada in June but decided, considering the economy, that leaving secure jobs for a state with one of the worst unemployment rates in the nation was a bad idea. Rest assured, though, I will still be out from time to time.

Great shot Bob!

And you got the lighting and clouds to cooperate as well.

Re: Great shot Bob!

Thanks-- the lighting really did work out nicely that afternoon, and I got the best shots of my trip that day.

Re: A real stunner

Thanks-- I'm going back this October to see if I can find a way up that crazy-looking thing.
