The class 3 mantling move on...

The class 3 mantling move on the traverse between the east and west summits of Mt. Russell. This is the crux of the traverse, but the footholds are plentiful even if the handholds are not. Aug 24, 2002

Will I come across this?

If coming from the South-Face-Right-Side Route, will this move be encountered, or is this on the right (east) side of where the South-Face-Right-Side tops out?

I've heard there is a way to by pass this move by going down and around on the right? Did you see anything like that and is the exposure worse?

Thanks!

Re: Will I come across this?

If you do the south face right side, you still have to do this move. I didn't see a way around primarily because I didn't look. The move has almost no exposure and isn't that hard - just makes you pause a moment.

My climbing buddy didn't like the looks of this, he managed very easily to walk around this section to the North, It's really very easy to climb this section though.
