The exposed traverse

The exposed traverse

Mark leading the famous exposed traverse of the Inwyler-Bielmeier route. The traverse is no longer the crux of the route, because the've placed some solid bolts. Bernese Alps - August 2010

Re: A little air...

Thank you Sarah. I think it was about 400 meters of air, but it felt like 2000 meters :-)

Cheers, Jurgen

Around the corner?

great shot, its always exciting coming off an airy traverse like that and wondering how hard the moves up the wall around the corner are going to be! The pro looks bomb proof though!

Re: Around the corner?

You're right about the pro, it is very solid. Therefore this isn't the crux anymore, it just airy. I can imagine how exiciting it must have been for the first climbers to take this traverse. I think it was kind of a point of no return.

Great Photos

You photos bring back so many memories! Allot of climbers use to climb this route back in the late sixties and seventies as one of the preparations in climbing the Eiger North Face. I did the route several times in '72 in good and bad weather and in winter.

Re: Great Photos

It must have been adventures to climb in the alps back then.. No bolts on this route I guess, just some pegs and a strong mind. It would be nice if you have some photo's from the route! I would love to see them.

Cheers, Jurgen
