Dreams are the possession of the simple man;
Reality the fantasy of youth.
But living is a problem that
Is common to us all,
With LOVE the only common road to truth.
(Uriah Heep - 1977)
In central Arizona near the House Mountain Volcano, an ocotillo (desert plant) surveys its territory.
Fouquieria splendens can remain leafless most of the year, depending on rainfall. It's an inverted, funnel-shaped desert plant with several woody, spiny, whip-like branches angling outward from the base and rising as high as 20 feet.
