With Jolly and confusion  Sucess!

An old copy of 75 Scrambles in Washington steered us wrong. In it Skookum Peak is identified with the distance and elevation of The Louvre. When we got to Skookum and were still looking up at Jolly we knew something was amiss. We just kept going up the ridge to The Louvre, although we didn't know it was called that at the time. Stunningly beautiful Autumn climb.

With Jolly  Sucess!

I bagged this after Jolly Mountain. The gate on FS 4315 has been "relocated" to the ditch and doesn't appear that it will be re-installed, if you know what I mean. I drove all the way to the new end of the road, and followed the trail from there as it crosses the road.

The bootpath from the trail is strong at first, and peters out after a while. Just keep ascending. I re-hung the Skookum Mtn sign, but it's nearly destroyed and probably won't last another winter. The summit boulder is spicy and requires stemming your feet to gain the top. There is one pretty exposed move just short of the false summit; I ascended climber's left and descended skier's left; it's more exposed on climber's left, but both sides go. This was a fairly long day, and having to gain 600 feet back up to the saddle with Jolly was demoralizing. Gorgeous views and fun scramble!
