The major obstacle on the East Ridge route is Point 13,420'. To avoid elevation loss, this point should be skirted to the south (right). Don't follow the nasty use trails that go too low--stay high on nice boulders. After traversing by the first (easternmost) tower, you'll come to the head of a steep northfacing gully.
