The Marmolada with it's dying glacier

Once a single wide glacier on the Marmolada's northern slope, the ice is split up in several smaller patches... Seen from the Sellajoch on August 23rd, 2017.

Sad to see

Sad to see how fast many glaciers are retreating. The Marmolada glacier looks really bad now..
I took this shot in the summer of 2011 from almost the same angle: http://www.summitpost.org/marmolada-3345m/849779/c-152899
Cheers!

Re: Sad to see

Yes, and there are ever so many other startling examples...Apart from the visibly dwindling Pasterze, Aletsch, Miage, Gorner and Morteratsch glaciers, there is for instance the tiny glacier on Piz della Margna that everybody knows from all the post-cards of St. Moritz and the Upper Engadin. That little glacier is...gone! In summer, you don't see any white on Piz della Margna any more. And of all the summer ski areas there used to be in Switzerland, only two still operate: Klein Matterhorn-Plateau Rosa in Zermatt and the one in Saas Fee. All the others, without exception, were forced to close down.
