The Mighty Sass Rigais (9924 ft / 3025 m, S-Face)

The Mighty Sass Rigais (9924 ft / 3025 m, S-Face) as seen from Ciampinoi (2150m, above St Christina) just before sunset. To the left of Sass Rigais you can see the Fermeda spitzen. To its right the tip of Furchetta (3025m) is visible. Ik looks like this grand mountain is very hard to climb. There is a moderate difficulty level Via Ferrata up to its summit though. It's still high on my wishlist for the Dolomites. January 2014

Excellent shot

This is one of your best shots Lodewijk. I love the shadow of the clouds on the glacier.

Great photo

of this impressive mountain. I don't think the the ferrata up from the col at left of the summit is very difficult, but it is quite long, and at times airy, I understand (never made the peak ourselves, I regret to say).

Thanks Ejnar! The Ferrata on the left of the summit (South-West ascent)is indeed less difficult compared to the one right of the summit (East ascent). It is graded as ''schwierig'' in my Kompass Guide ''Klettersteige Dolomiten Nord'' The southwest ascent is longer though. A couple of years ago we had to choose between climbing Sass Rigais or Cima della Vezzana. We chose Vezzana, but didn't summit because of the snow conditions and bad weather. Next time I will choose Sass Rigais :-)

Wonderful capture!

I like the light-grey cloud crossing the scenery as a bad shadow and contrasting with the clear profile of the peaks!

Yes Sir ... the shadow is pure bad-ass,
and reminds me of a Dutch trio singing this
version of the "Wind Beneath my Wings."
