The rocks below Kranjska reber (Barona peč)

The ridge of Kranjska reber (a part of the Rogatec group) is unique in Slovenia. It's made of vocanic rocks, which is rare for the southern Alps, and they are witnessing the Triassic volcanism. Mostly they are green, slightly metamorphised schists. The nearby ridge of Smrekovec is also volcanic by its origin, but it's much younger. After the area of Kranjska reber was formed by volcanic activity it was sunken some 3 km and during the formation of Alps, those rocks were subject to high pressures and temperatures. That's why they are slightly metamorphic. Later, they came out again and the present ridge was formed. Here also flora is different, we see a part of it on September 4th, 2021.
