The FenceThe Indian Peak Wildlife Management area was actually a reservation for the Indian Peak band of Ute Indians before it was purchased by the State of Utah and turned into a wildlife management area. The fence designates the WMA and keeps livestock (including mustangs which are very prominent in the area) off of the WMA. I worked for the Utah Division of Wildlife through college and maintained that fence. . I've made that summit hike with a roll of wire and fence stretcher on my back four times :) There is also a youth wilderness program that makes the hike with their students, the mail box is filled with letters from those kids telling their stories it's pretty cool. As far as the sign goes I'm not sure, I have heard two stories: one that it was made by wildland fire fighters and the other that it was made by someone in the wilderness program out there.

Re: The FenceThanks for sharing your experience with this area and the info about the history. I really am impressed with what is out in the western desert and really appreciate the dedication of those who help protect and preserve it. If you have any pictures to share, that would be a nice addition to my page.
