The Summit Ramp Route

The Summit Ramp Route

The Summit Ramp route to the Arrowhead. There are many ways to reach the access ramp: one is shown in yellow. From the access ramp to the summit there is essentially one line, shown in red. This view is from Stone Man Pass. Rocky Mountain National Park, August 2005.

deceptive

This is great beta, but it is taken from Stone Man Pass. It is NOT what you see when you hike up to Black Lake and are looking for the route. Looking up at Arrowhead from Black Lake you must go up and then traverse way left into the upper Basin.

Route from Black

While this angle IS quite a bit different compared to what you see coming up from Black, I found it helpful as it was a good indicator to keep traversing way left.

There was a clear cairn pile along the way after which I continued left on grass with talus below me and slabs above me until there was a good spot to start angling up the slabs. This appears to loosely agree with the start of the yellow line shown.
