The Summit

This is the summit of Southwest Butte. Being the highest mountain on its ridge and centrally located between arms of the giant Salmon River, with high peaks of the Gospels, Salmon River Mountains and Seven Devils beyond, the views from the top are spectacular. The summit area is a transiton between quartz and granite. The surviving trees are subalpine fir with the dead whitebark pine. July 2007
