The Third Flatiron descent....

The Third Flatiron descent. I've taken brenta's excellant photo and annotated it with detailed rappel instructions. This is a popular newbie climb with an exciting and somewhat non-obvious (even with the instructions printed on the bolts) rappel. Rappel is done in three pitches with a 50 meter rope. First pitch south off the summit deposits you in a bowl about 50' below the summit. The second set of bolts is right in front of you and takes you down about 40' of dihedral to a narrow ledge. Walk west about 30' from here (stay on rope) to the second set of bolts. Clip to the bolts and re-rig the rope for the final 72' rappel to the West Bench. If you rap from the first set of bolts on the ledge (red route), it's 140' down!

Very nice!

This is a very informative photo and really makes all that talk about the raps on the climbingboulder.com page make a lot more sense. You should post it over there too. Thanks!
