I see

you changed your profile pic. I like it! I would love to visit Death Valley some day and do the nearby hikes.

Re: I see

I visited Death Valley for the first time this year in January. I was surprised at how big the area actually was. There are several mountain ranges and valleys to explore. I really liked the mountains because most of them are not climbed often and there are numerous slot canyons.

Wow...

Melinda, this is really you! I had seen another photo of you and your family, but I can see you much better in this one.

Thanks for everything, Melinda,
Happy climbing,
Marc

Re: Wow...

Thanks Marc! You are always very kind with your comments. I figured it was time for a new profile pic. You’ll have to settle for a photo of me with the desert and mountains in the background.

Hi Melinda!

Nice to see another pic of you. Glad you could make it to DV. It's an awesome place. I've been on Thimble and a lot of the peaks there. It's one of my favorite places. Usually go there every spring. Have a great summer!

Re: Hi Melinda!

Thanks! It was a great place to visit during winter. There was snow on the shaded parts of Thimble Peak and the weather was perfect. I know spring is the best time to see wildflowers in Death Valley.

Well ...

Looking good! I volunteered for a work
assignment in DV several years ago. I got
to go swimming and ride my mountain bike.

You're right, winter would be the best time
to visit the awesome Mojave. Please, have a
GREAT rest of the summer.

Re: Well ...

Thanks Larry! Winter is the best time to visit if you have good weather. Also during spring and fall when it is not too hot. It snowed a week before and after my trip. The temps were nice and cool. You have a great summer too.

Re: Photo of the Day

Thanks Mike! I recommend taking a trip to Death Valley. There were people at the campgrounds but the mountains were quiet. It must be because it is so desolate that few people hike here.

close to home

The east side of DV is about 2 hrs drive from my home, and is often the destination for last-minute trips in winter (e.g., wake up Saturday morning early, and say, "why not?"). Some of my favorite peaks there are not even on the radar for most folks. With a bit of snow, they are downright beautiful.

Re: close to home

I was staying in Vegas for a few days and noticed that Death Valley was not that far away. I was glad to finally visit this place. The snow does make it look beautiful and it was especially noticeable on Telescope Peak.

Re: Wow

Thanks, you can tell I know a lot about fashion :)

It was cold and windy above 6,000 feet even though it doesn’t look like it.

Re: Wow

Yeah, but it should be a hat with a brim. And eyes on the back.

Re: Wow

It was smart of you to gave it in the pocket.
I was there once conducting hot weather testing. It did not work to good. It was even raining in the morning, though we managed.

Who is that?

I didn't recognize you at first. I'm used to seeing your legs dangling off that rock! Nice pic!

Re: Who is that?

Thank you! I didn’t recognize me at first either. No dangling legs this time. You have a nice marathon profile pic!

Re: Who is that?

Thanks. I thought I better post something to show what I've been doing, since I rarely get out on a mountain.

Nice photo

I really need to get out to Death Valley for some hiking. It's been on the 'list' for a while now. I like the new picture.
