This is Goblin Mountain (5,606 ft). Goblin is 1.5 miles east of Kyes Peak. Kyes Peak was once known as Goblin Peak but was renamed in 1946 for Monte Cristo resident James Ellsworth Kyes. Kyes was a naval officer who heroically gave his life upon giving his life vest to a cabin boy when their destroyer
Leary was sinking in the North Atlantic during WWII. The valley in front of Goblin is that of Goblin Creek. Photo taken August 8, 1999 from the SSW (from the South Ridge of Kyes). For a view of the summit block of Goblin, click
