This photo was taken less than 20 ft from the Mount Sherman's summit. Possibly the first fourteener climbed by a beaver. No idea how he got there--or why. Taken 31-May-2003.

Rabies

Rabid animals do weird stuff... I cant imagine a beaver doing a 14er... maybe he was rabid.

Re: Incredible

Duh-It could be a marmot. I'd have to see the tail. If that's it down in the lower right hand corner, then it might be a beaver. Then, my first comment would certainly apply.

Beaver do show up in the strangest places, though.

Re: Incredible

It actually was a beaver and not a marmot. That was my thought originally, too. The tail was flat and about 5-6" wide. I'm still amazed he was up there.

Re: Incredible

Its obviously the famous "Eiger" beaver, the world class mountaineering rodent. He has climbed many, many, more mountains than any other beaver, ever.

What we need on this site is more shaved beavers.

I was there!

My wife Jennifer & I can confirm this sighting. We also climbed sherman on May 31, 2003 and saw the alpine beaver. I have posted one of my summit beaver pics on the page. I believe we actually ran into the poster of this pic. (we had a border collie with us).
