Started at the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek and came up to Icehouse Saddle, hit the 3 Ts on the way to Mt. Baldy. This was my 2nd attempt at this route, the 1st time in December we camped on Telegraph and went back due to ice and snow, and no Ice axe or crampons.
I had this as an orphan peak because it looked so unappealing. Finally knocked it off as a 3T exercise. 3.5 hours from Icehouse.
Did this as part of the 3 Ts, although Thunder didn't seem like much of a peak to me. Nice day out, no crampons required. Did a traverse from Icehouse Canyon to Baldy Notch. Hiked down to the parking lot and hitched a ride from another SP member back to the truck.
Perfect day in late November. Did Baldy via Bear Canyon before the 3Ts. Seemed like the toughest part of the hike was the long walk from the Icehouse trailhead back to the village via the highway.
As part of the 3-T's plus Blady and West Baldy. Great day out.
Walked the road up for my tenth trip to this fun summit of mine. Had some beers and watched the higher peaks of range. Some find this mountain ugly, but it is a great quick hike or longer mountain bike ride for the area. One of the few good high peaks you can actually bike to in southern california.
Did Baldy from the village, the three tees (including Thunder) plus Harwood all in the heat, great hike.
Made this one on the way to Telegraph for a nice day with the wife and kids.
Started from Ice House Canyon and did Timber and Telegraph first. Reached Thunder by 12:30 and had lunch. Long hike back to Ice House Canyon
I was disappointed by this peak! Someone en route to Baldy mentioned that "Thunder kicked my butt!" so I had high expectations for a difficult climb up, and was extremely disappointed by the sight at the top (ski lift. oh weee), and zero view (surrounded by cloud and fog) and relatively easy hike up... I think my source probably came by way of Icehouse Saddle, instead of Baldy Saddle.
3 of the 3T's traverse
From the ski parking lot, hiked underneath the lift to the Notch and then to Thunder. Then we continued on to do Telegraph and Timber and back down Ice House Canyon. I've also done Thunder as one of the 3 summits done during the Baldy Peaks 50K.
Very, very easy hike!
Still alot of snow, First trip getting in shape for MT Whitney.
CLimbed up the East slope. In combination with the west ridge of Telegraph it makes for a great quick and steep option when doing the 3T's.
Hiked as part of Baldy 9-peaks
Beautiful morning hike of the Three T. Saw the sun rising on Baldy from near the saddle and the wind started to pick up from there. Great day!
Went up the ski hut trail to Baldy, across the Devil's Backbone and over to Thunder before heading down the dirt road to Manker. Nice day up there. Rob McNair and I did this in the memory of our friend John Davis who passed away a week ago. John was the race director of the Baldy Peaks 50k for several years and the race tops out on both Baldy and Thunder during the event. Got involved in calling in coordinates to a rescue crew for a stranded hiker on the way down. Overall Thunder is not that tough unless you pair it with Baldy or the other two "T"s.
A really great mountain bike peak or just a quick +8000ft peak in the los angeles area. the 3ts trail is a great route up and over telegraph peak and timber mountain.
