Great Hike  Sucess!

A few patches of snow on Freezout Ridge. No wildflowers yet, and overcast, but still a great hike to the summit of an 8000 footer.

Quick  Sucess!

From Freezeout Ridge. Easy peasy. Met a nice couple from Florida hiking this one. Fit this one in before I had to head back home. Almost a Bulger but not quite.

Wish I'd done it before the burn  Sucess!

Nice summit despite the burn area  Sucess!

I was very disappointed when I showed up at the trailhead. This was a sad burn area and was depressing. However the summit itself and some of the larches more than made up it.

Nice fall hike  Sucess!

Despite a barren landscape due to a forest fire we managed some awesome views and some great larches.

Waist deep in snow, but easy day  Sucess!

In late April it isn't normal to be able to drive out to Freezeout Pass, but there wasn't much snowfall during the winter. Sank about knee deep through the trees, but almost nonexistent on the ridge. Rewarding view for an easy hike.

Tower Arete  Sucess!

See Fred's entry. Perfect weather, great views and a fun day.

Tower Arete  Sucess!

Traversed to the base of the tower skipping P1 and P2 of the route description here.

A very nice climb from there to the top of the tower with many options for the exact line. There is a lot of lichen on the rock in addition to the loose rocks mentioned in the route description.
We thought that some of what we climbed was a bit harder than Class 4 and were happy that we took a small selection of cams.

North Face via the NE Couloir  Sucess!

Beautiful sunny morning solo ascent of this 500' long snow chute. It has probably been climbed before, but there was no indication of that. Snow conditions were firm, but it would have been better with a bit more snow (a couple of bare steep muddy patched made for the cruxes). Lovely day, no one else around...

Nice early season hike  Sucess!

Due to the very low snow year, we were able to drive all the way to Freezout Pass! It's a short mellow hike from there. Not much snow on the ridge

Best Christmas Ever  Sucess!

I left town the night of the 23rd and hiked up the road to the trailhead north of Salmon Meadows. Easy going this time for two reasons--much less snow than last year, only about 6-8 inches in the lower stretches, and I had gone up on Thanksgiving weekend and hauled a huge backpack of stuff and left it cached about 2/3 of the way up. Carrying only the food for the trip and minimal clothing for the day made my trip light and fast. A terribly windy night was followed by a cloudy day, but the sun came out for a few minutes at the summit. I left the old summit register in the pipe, but added a new one with several pencils. An evening after work and three days round trip

First success  Sucess!

A brilliant clear day, and a surprising amount of free flowing surface water at that time of year. This was the first time I had been there completely snow-free. I made a huge mistake by taking a shirtless nap for over an hour at the summit, resulting in a horrible sunburn and blisters. I studied the routes for my real objective, another shot at a Christmas ascent.

Second Attempt

Not prepared for the difficulty of dragging a toboggan of gear through 18 inches of snow, I only made it about 2 of the 6 miles from the trailhead on the less known approach from Conconully to the south. Two great days of solitude, though.

First attempt

A nice late Fall day, but wound up losing the trail in deep snow after topping Whistler Pass. Having never been up there and losing the sun, I decided to stop about a quarter mile from the top and try again some other day.

Good With Snow!  Sucess!

This was a fun peak to summit while covered in snow.
The approach road became snowbound within a few feet north of Freezeout Pass... which was fortunate, because the TH was there.

Nice, quick, straightforward route (even with snow). The view of Clark Peak was great!

Incredible views  Sucess!

Hiked the Freezeout Ridge trail to the summit, then descended back down by way of Whistler Pass. First trip to the area - can't wait to go back and visit some of the other peaks!

Freezeout  Sucess!

Dug in a snow camp at 7,700' and went up to the summit in the late afternoon. Very easy climb with outstanding views. We planned to head over to Clark but it started to blow really hard and snowing sideways. We decided to descend back to camp. We had to leave early the next day so only summited Tiffany. Will be back to do a Tiffany, Middle Tiffany, Rock & Clark loop sometime. That would be the way to do it!!! Used snowshoes for most of the hike.

Re: did in combo with Clark

I always go from Conconully to the south. In six hikes, I have never seen one person.

Fall Stroll  Sucess!

We had plenty of time but my brother was nursing a sore knee so we decided on Tiffany, Freezout Ridge. It turned out to be a pleasant stroll with beautiful terrain and weather. Great views from the summit. This has to be the easiest +8000 foot mountain in Washington.
If you're going in October, wear orange. From the summit we could see three or four hunting groups on the surrounding terrain.
