I climbed Tochal for acclimatization. 3 days later I was without any problems on the top of Damavand (5671m). For more fotos, you can see: www.hikr.org/tour/post1261.html
I've climbed in a sunny day , but there was heavy snow on the rout from shirpala hut to the summit.
well I will try it again this winter.Spending one night each year in Shirpala shelter would be nice! Then after summiting when you get to istgaah panj, wow!
I've climbed it from Darband-shirpala route in fall and winter .
I climbed it in winter 2006 in a very cold air and heavy snow .
can somebody please tell me is it hard to reach the second station of the Tochal for a casual climber,as it is the first time I want to go there, and I want to know are there cliffs to climbe .thanks
This is a very good acclimatization climb just outside the city. Trail is a bit difficult to find though :-)
Velenjak - Lift - Ski resort 3740m - 45min hike - Summit.
perfect sunshine, -16C on summit, north-west wild wind on the crest, the snow cover was solid in crazy shapes done by the winds.
Almost all Elborz range was visible from the summit in the thin air like never before, you could count the peaks,
less than 30mins clouds covered the sky and covered Alamkouh 4850m.
Shame, Tehran not visible at all, covered by a thick layer of toxics.
First day up to Shir Pala shelter (2750m) to spend the night, second day to the summit.
The easy way to the summit. Took the lift to the top of it at 3740 m. From there it was a half hour pleasant hike with 224 m of vertical. Tons of snow on the northern slopes. NorthernTehran barely visible in the haze/smog.
I reached the summit in a good summer day for the first time by myself . after that day I try from the other routes such az palang chal , kolak chal and velenjak .
