Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge / Grays Trail Date Climbed: September 7, 2002  Sucess!

Started from Stevens Gulch and then veered off for the Kelso Ridge. A very fun climb, especially over the knife ridge. Descended the Grays Trail, with a round trip time of around 5 hours.

My 6th Fourteener. My friend Logan and I hiked Torreys, starting at 2 AM so we would see the sunrise from the summit. Awesome view!!! Made it to the summit just before the sun rose. Had it all to ourselves, until about half way down the mountain, when we started passing other hikers. Counted 143 in all (plus a dozen or so dogs), with more streaming up the dirt road as we exited; definitely glad to beat the crowds. Saw some mountain goats also!

Route Climbed: Loveland Pass Traverse Date Climbed: August 2nd, 2004  Sucess!

My second major peak on the traverse, awesome views, and the backside affords some great scree skiing down, though it is a nasty slog up the hill.

I like climbing this mountain...I felt it has a little more character than is lofty neighbor. Had the summit to myself for 20 minutes and didn't see another soul until about a mile form the trailhead on the descent...good stuff! Next time, it's Kelso Ridge...that look like loads of fun.

Route Climbed: From Grays Peak across the saddle Date Climbed: Saturday August 28, 2004  Sucess!

Left Grays Peak about 9:12AM down to the saddle and back up to Torreys summit about 9:50AM. Seven people on top and others on the way. Spectacular views all around and fresh snow on nearly every peak. Signed the summit log, stayed about 20 mins. Took my time on the way down and took lots of photos, back to the trailhead at 11:45. My 3rd 14'er and a great morning!

Finally got the views I went up there for, spectacular to say the least. The clouds that covered us on Grays were long gone, and it even warmed up.

Hiked Grays and traversed to Torreys. Scenic hike. Not difficult. Crowded (even though it was a Friday). Good starter 14er.

Route Climbed: Steven's Gulch Date Climbed: August 21, 2004  Sucess!

My wife and I climbed Grays and Torreys today with a group from the CMC boulder section. Had a wonderful time. There were hundreds/thousands of hikers on the trail -- it was the hike with Ed Viestus day, which we did not know about.

However, looking at the positive side, I thought it impossible to find that many Americans that would be willing/able to hike for 8 miles and 3000ft. It is good to see that many people interested in spending time outdoors.

After hike up to Grays, I was wondering " should I hike to Torreys Peak or not ". Finally, I thought "what the hag, let finish two peak in one day." So, I did two peak: Grays and Torreys Peak. It was easy. I did not feel very tire after that.

Route Climbed: Traverse from Grays; Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: '70's, '80's, 90's  Sucess!

Have done this mountain 6 or 7 times, usually from Grays, but the best was doing the Kelso ridge with Aaron, using some of the rocks to practice our rock climbing/rope skills.

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: June 20, 2004  Sucess!

This ridge is one of the finest most rewarding climbs Ive done. Brought along a friend from Texas who had a great time, but was a bit sore and out of breath by the time it was over. This ridge provides great exposure and a classic mountaineering feel to the climb. Climbed in conjuction with Gray's, it was really a nice tour of the cirque by the time the day was over. Only one tough part to speak of on the ridge, sketch factor of about 5 on a 1-10 scale. Cheers!

Tagged Torreys on Thursday, July 1, 2004 following the summit of Grays. Pretty windy up there and a little chilly too!

Route Climbed: From Grays Date Climbed: August 3, 2002  Sucess!

I got off the plane from Detroit and headed straight to the top of Grays and Torreys. Needless to say, I had a bad headache and was a little dizzy. There was no snow anywhere! Very unusual.

very cool looking mountain on the approach. Lots of people. Next time I am aiming for kelso ridge, we'll see what this knife edge is all about.

Route Climbed: (1) Kelso Ridge, and (2) Dead Dog Couloir Date Climbed: (1) September 1995, and (2) June 22, 2003  Sucess!

(1) The first fourteneer I ever climbed, with a friend who admitted a fear of heights. Gutsy fellow. The Knife-Edge was a blast.

(2) My first solo couloir climb, and, again, a blast: I was very fit, had great weather, a great climb, tagged two fourteeners, enjoyed the Mother of all Glissades from the summit of Grays down to the basin, and still got back to the Fort for lunch. My trip report is here.

The most intense Class 3 I have been on yet. The fun just keeps on coming, with the grand finale knife edge!
