Via Kelso ridge - Grays loop  Sucess!

Great climb/hike, very happy to have made the full trip in 4:20 solo, with my first Class 3 pitches at such altitude (live in upstate NY). Decent exposure and a very fun route!

over from Grays Peak  Sucess!

I was succesful and proud of it! When crossing the snowfield at the saddle between the peaks don't turn down too soon on the return back down to Stevens Gulch Trailhead, terrain is rougher there. My first twofer.

Loveland Pass  Sucess!

Wow, 10 miles above 12000ft, that makes for quite a day. Took about 8 hours and none of it is flat. All up and down all the way.
Jogged out the final mile and a half because I was getting rained on. Jogging at 12000ft is not fun, but neither is getting lightening'ed. This was a great route.

A Brand New Bag  Sucess!

Went across the saddle from Grays on a beautiful day. More than a few people, but I didn't mind, I hiked my first 14ers! If you want a fairly tame hike that will leave you wanting more, Grays\Torreys will do the trick.

Kelso Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed some unnamed couloir on Kelso Mountain from Grizzly Gulch to the summit of Kelso. We then followed Kelso Ridge all the way from Kelso Mtn. to the summit of Torreys. Beautiful Day! #27

Dead Dog Couloir  Sucess!

This was a nice couloir with a great finish, but it was crowded (14 people climbed it this day) and there were definitely a few cases of rock-fall. I took my brother-in-law, and this was his first crampon/ice axe experience.

Dead Dog  Sucess!

A great day. Haliku and I ascended Dead Dog Couloir to the summit and then headed on to Grays. It was good to summit after a previous attempt on this route and an arduous attempt on Mt. Brooks in the Alaska Range about two weeks ago. I needed to get up something!

7/20/08 - Climbed Grays and Torreys with my wife for our, belated, anniversary 14er tradition.

Dead Dog  Sucess!

Climbed up the couloir and then tagged Grays. Got to the couloir as the sun was coming up, the snow got soft quick. Melting was causing rocks to come flying down, bring a helmet.

Dead Dog  Sucess!

Flew in from Chicago Friday night and slept at the TH. Parked just past the old saw mill on Saturday morning, snowshoed in and camped below the mine shack. Climbed Kelso Mountain in the afternoon as a warm-up for Torreys Peak. Woke up early Sunday and climbed the Dead Dog Couloir on Torreys with Mike. Conditions were perfect. We had a mostly cloudless sky and excellent snow in the couloir. The snow on the final summit ridge was a bit powdery but no real problem. We intended to climb Grays Peak too, but heavy clouds started to roll in and we opted to head back. Descended via the south saddle and Grays Peak trail, broke camp and hiked out.

Emperor/NW Face  Sucess!

Ascended the Emperor with Andy, Brenta, Mt man dan, and zenalpinist. Snow was in decent shape for the climb up, weather held up nicely. Skied down the NW face on windslab and hard pack until 12K, got 1K of good spring corn in. Many wet slides visible in the surrounding areas.
