climbed via loveland pass..hitting up cupid peak and grizzly peak along the way...didn't see a single soul until we hit the summit of torreys. descended standard trail, good thing too...the weather was crazy that day.
Part of combo with Grays.
Climbing this late in the season was a tad tricky. There were lots of ice on the trail from the timberline on up. I slipped a few times and one of my friends, Daisuke, did it with his basketball shoes. LoL! We were young and daring, but we summitted both peaks! I'm recording this as the first time I took Torreys & Grays. There were other ascent up these peaks afterward but they're too many to mention.
Wasn't sure if I had time to do Torreys from Grays but went for it and succeeded!
Just signing the log. I've climbed Torreys several times and have been up there in all seasons. Some of the biggest avalanches I've ever seen (disregarding Nepal and the Cascades) were on the east face of Torreys during a three day heavy snowfall. A beautiful, fun peak in any season.
still a great day, great views, and greater people
Great climb/hike, very happy to have made the full trip in 4:20 solo, with my first Class 3 pitches at such altitude (live in upstate NY). Decent exposure and a very fun route!
start early, hike fast, enjoy the top by yourself
First time bagging two in one day. Grays first. Tough day.
Lots of people, good weather.
I was succesful and proud of it! When crossing the snowfield at the saddle between the peaks don't turn down too soon on the return back down to Stevens Gulch Trailhead, terrain is rougher there. My first twofer.
Great day & beautiful views.
I've done this one 5 times, most recently from Kelso Ridge. The ridge was a blast!
Wow, 10 miles above 12000ft, that makes for quite a day. Took about 8 hours and none of it is flat. All up and down all the way.
Jogged out the final mile and a half because I was getting rained on. Jogging at 12000ft is not fun, but neither is getting lightening'ed. This was a great route.
Via the Emperor couloir, very nice and long day! Lot's of snow still!
Went across the saddle from Grays on a beautiful day. More than a few people, but I didn't mind, I hiked my first 14ers! If you want a fairly tame hike that will leave you wanting more, Grays\Torreys will do the trick.
Hiked the south ridge after climbing Grays.
Climbed some unnamed couloir on Kelso Mountain from Grizzly Gulch to the summit of Kelso. We then followed Kelso Ridge all the way from Kelso Mtn. to the summit of Torreys. Beautiful Day! #27
1st & 2nd official 14ers. Gorgeos day. Close encounters with the Mountain Goats! Lots of people, but can't blame them. :o)
But one of numerous summits (lost count). Cheers!
