Route Climbed: From Gray's Saddle Date Climbed: May 2002  Sucess!

This was my third 14er and my first experience with altitude sickness. Torreys seemed much steeper than Grays (or was that my body trying to tell me something). About halfway up Torreys I became disoriented and lightheaded. Not to mention the pounding in my head. After a couple of aspirin, some water and a snack I was feeling better.

I pushed myself (while my friend pulled) towards the summit. After about an hour we made it!! I was still feeling kinda funny so we didn't stay long. After descending back down to the saddle I felt much better but was still exhaused.

We decided to traverse accross the snowfield on Grays back to the switchbacks. Even though it was well traveled, it was still pretty steep and one wrong step would send you hundreds of feet down to the bottom. I was scared to death!!

We made it safely accross to the switchbacks. It was pretty late by then so we had the rest of the trail all to ourselves. We got back to our car at 7pm if you can believe it!

What a great day!

Route Climbed: Dead Dog couloir Date Climbed: July 9, 2003  Sucess!

Excellent conditions climbing up couloir until we reached the loose scramble up the final steps of Kelso Ridge. Breezy and cool on top, which we had to ourselves.

Date Climbed: August 2002  Sucess!

Did the summit twice. I went up and forgot to get some rocks for friends who had asked for them so I went back up the last 150 twice.

Route Climbed: Stephen' Gulch Date Climbed: Aug 14, 2003  Sucess!

Dad and I took the saddle from Gray's. I know some people go back to the trailhead. Well each to their own. We enjoyed a beautiful August morning. We were one of the first 5 to summit that morning due to our headlamp assisted start. A fun day.

Route Climbed: Stevens Gulch Date Climbed: October 12, 2003  Sucess!

Wind blew me to the ground on connecting saddle from Greys. A great peak with its cramped summit. Don't look north and down if you don't want to be reminded of how close you are to I-70, other than that great veiw.

Sunny and fun. Not really too many people. I thought there would be a lot more.

Route Climbed: Via Gray's Peak Date Climbed: August 17, 2002  Sucess!

From Gray's peak it didn't look to bad. Once we started up to summit Torreys peak, my body didn't agree with my eye's anymore!! :-) But making it to the top was well worth it.

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: August 28, 2003

Fun, Scary, Exhilerating. Definately a great climb by any stardards. The exposure is pretty bad, but it wouldn't be an adventure without those gust-of-wind-you-die odds right? Not to mention that "knife edge" crux near the summit, which is a little frightening, especially if you have to worry about crushing your manhood on the edge. This was my first time on this route, but I have to say it was a lot of fun.

I climbed torreys with Grays. Torreys has an awsome summit, when it's not crouded. A great hike for beginners.

Route Climbed: Stevens Gulch via Grays Date Climbed: 7/7/03  Sucess!

I headed down off of Grays with my new pals James and Jamie. We switched backed down Grays and then hit the ridge to the saddle just above a large snow field. Hit the saddle at 13,707' and headed up Torreys, which was a bit steeper than Grays. We were feeling a little out of gas, but still managed to hit the summit about an hour after leaving Grays. Took some photos, signed the register, and had a bite to eat. Jamie was feeling kind of bad at this point. I shared my cheese and breadsticks with him and the next thing you knew he had all of the energy that a young kid has. Wow, I never thought cheese wiz could do so much. We headed down and made the saddle in good time. We had to head back up Grays for about 100' or so. From there we traversed a large snow field that headed back over to the Grays switchbacks. It was well stepped in, but you had to be very careful as a slip from here could send you sliding for several hundred feet and then a painful stop on the rocks. Once we reached the other side, we noticed a sign that said that trail was closed. That was funny, I must have seen 30 people on that route. We continued down without wasteing any time. I was in a hurry as I had to pick my girlfriend up at the airport. Perfect timing, great weather, and a really nice set of mountains to spend the day on. Thanks to James and Jamie for a great day.

Route Climbed: South Slopes Date Climbed: June 14, 2003  Sucess!

Climbed after Grays with Alan on a great day. Winds were much better going up Torreys as compared to Grays. The south slope was mostly snow covered with cornices going over the east edge. Torreys is a beautiful mountain!
