Route Climbed: Over the saddle from Gray's Peak Date Climbed: July 29 2005  Sucess!

Took a Friday off work to hike Gray's and Torrey's Peak. The crowd was not bad at all and oh what a beautiful day.

Route Climbed: Grays Peak Trail Date Climbed: July 30, 2005  Sucess!

Left the campsite at 0330 hours for our traverse up to Grays and then over to Torreys. We were at the summit of Grays by 0600 and spent about 40 minutes a top. We began to make our way down the saddle between the two 14ers. The climb of Torreys is quite a bit more difficult than Grays since very few switchbacks are present. Overall, nothing more than Class 2 hiking. We were at the top of Torreys by 0745. We were the first on Grays that morning and the second group on Torreys. I couldn't believe how many people we had to pass on the way down. I would estimate it to be at least 400. The best way to climb the popular front range 14ers is early in the morning before the Denver crowds arrive.

We climbed Torreys on a beautiful summer day. Grays and Torreys are Great Colorado 14ers but in the summer they draw considerable crowds so plan accordingly.

chrissy's 1st fourteeneer--I said is was easy, she had a difference of opinion. best hike of my life--great weather, and such a beautiful mountain--but the difference, i discovered, (in spite of the masses), was sharing this special place with someone you love. on the way down, when i asked her "was it worth it?"-she said-"ask me in a couple of days"

Route Climbed: Traverse from Grays Peak Date Climbed: May 20, 2005  Sucess!

After experiencing mountain lighting on Grays. Shane and I dashed across the traverse to quickly bagged 14er number 3 on my list. Departing the mountain we barely escaped the wrath of snow pellets.

Route Climbed: Chihuahua Gulch Date Climbed: August 13, 2004  Sucess!

We had the time and wanted to take a route that was less heavily traveled. The Chihuahua Gulch trail was fantastic! Didn't see another person until we reached the summit. Highly recommend this route. Great hike!

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: July 17, 2005  Sucess!

Never gone up Torreys or Greys but Kelso Ridge was absolutely fantastic. Do not even bother to go the standard route. Had Torreys to ourselves for about 5 minutes which was nice, though MASSIVE amounts of people on the way down from Greys.

Yeah, it seems that I always have to take a harder way down than up... but Kelso was awesome - my first serious exposure on a hike.

My 2nd summit of Torreys (1st was via Dead Dog Couloir a few years ago). This is a great climb, and we had perfect weather. There was just a short snowfield to cross after the crux below the summit (top of Dead Dog Couloir), but it was soft and easy to traverse without crampons. Ascended via the first dihedral and around the edge of the second on the crux. The knife edge was not nearly as intimidating as I expected- only one move that was a bit sketchy without pro.

Crowded but a good way to bag a couple of peaks in one day. Took my girlfriend up her first 14er via the Grays Peak Trail. Can't wait to try Dead Dog or Kelso Ridge.

3:00 up. Dry all the way up to the knife-edge crux above Dead Dog. A little slippery crossing hard snow after the crux at the top of Dead Dog. Great glissade down from normal trail starting below the Grays/Torreys saddle.

Route Climbed: Grays Peak Trail Date Climbed: June 20, 2005  Sucess!

Awesome day with a little rain after noon to cool me down. I watched a three man team with a dog have a close call climbing the face to the summit as an avalanche came within about 10 feet of their party. Fortunately, the made it safely to the summit. Good times and climb safe!
