I have never climbed in the Black, but I like your pages for it and they make me interested in climbing there. You mention this route is not for people new to the Black. Is there a different moderate you would recommend for a newcomer to the Black?
I woud start with maiden voyage - it is a nice and clean climb. You may like Tourist Route too, but it is long and you have to know how to read and follow topo well.
I have met people who were solid on 5.11 sport routes and had troubles on 5.9s in the canyon. So, it depends... Tourist Route has a few variations and if you get off the route, you can end up in 5.10 terrain.
