from Cottonwood Trail Head  Sucess!

Very pleasant trail hike up to Trail Pass then turned right (north) on PCT until I found a spot north of the peak where I met two hiking buddies, who had started a cross-country straight-up route to the top from further below. One had brought his 2 and a half year-old daughter making this her first summit. The surrounding views are spectacular.

Nice warm-up  Sucess!

We planned this as an acclimatization hike the day before we hiked from Whitney Portal to Trail Camp. This worked out really well, as we were able to drive up from Lone Pine after lunch, summit, then still have dinner in Lone Pine. Beautiful area, especially the path through the meadow and into the forest. There didn't seem to be any use paths up or down, so we just slogged up the East slopes. We took a more direct route down, but the routefinding is pretty trivial up there. GPS tracks

Great Views  Sucess!

Hiked from Trail Pass on July 30, 2016. No scrambling was necessary -- just picked my way through the trees and fallen logs and boulders all the way to the top. The top had a five-foot boulder that was easy to get up. As a novice climber I would rate the entire hike Class 1.

The views were swell even though the day was surprisingly smoky and hazy. At the time I thought the smoke was coming form the remnants of the "Sand Fire" near Santa Clarita, CA, but I believe the fire was completely out by the time of my hike, so I'm still a bit mystified as to what lead to those conditions.

I stayed the night at the Cottonwood Pass Trailhead walk-in campground and hoped to do Cirque Peak the next day, but the altitude got to me (though it was not a problem for me on the hike of Trail Peak) so I ended up driving around the Sierra through Yosemite before heading home to Southern California.

Great little peak!  Sucess!

Little gem of a peak with great views! Hiked it from Trail Pass and then went on to Smatko peak from Cottonwood Pass. Absolutely gorgeous day out! This would be an excellent training hike to acclimate for bigger peaks.

Nice, easy day.  Sucess!

After a difficult day hike of University Peak the day before, this was pleasant to the extreme!

Love the prominence and remoteness. Saw a bear on the way back to camp. Easy walk up.

Easy walk-up from Horseshoe Meadows. Terrific views compared to the amount of effort expended. Good acclimatization summit.

Nice views  Sucess!

I was planning on climbing this and a few other peaks on a 3 day trip but didn't have my bear can so just did this as a 20 mile day hike, including Chicken Spring Lake.

From Horseshoe Meadows  Sucess!

Added this peak at the end of a long dayhike to climb Cartago Peak. Just a few small snow patches to avoid in this low snow year.

An easy day out  Sucess!

A great hike from Horseshoe Meadow. Fiancee didn't much care for it. Another victim to high altitude. I've learned my lesson on acclimatization being needed for the sea level dwellers.

Very nice hike out of Horseshoe meadows! Bushwacked straight down from the peak which made it more fun, hit the trail almost at the meadow.

Slow but fun  Sucess!

Recovering from a stress fracture in my foot and this was my second peak back (after Wonoga for sunset the previous night). Felt super out of shape and took so much longer than I should have, but at least I'm back in the mountains. Stupid foot.
