Trail?...up to Devil's Backbone

Trail?...up to Devil's Backbone

I took this "trail" up to Devil's Backbone. I'm not sure if it was the correct path, since there was a winding dirt road up to the ski lodge. I just went straight up the ski hill and at a couple points my GPS read 40% Grade. It certainly felt like it, and I was happy to get to the real trail after what i think was about 2000 ft. of lung busting altitude.

That trail works better ..

.. if you ride the lift up when its running.
As I had my wife with me who didn't want to climb Baldy, we went up the lift and I left her at the lodge as I went up the Devils Backbone route. It was her first ride ever on a chair lift and I wish I had a video of her fear factor. She handled it ok but barely. : )

Great...lol. It wasn't running the day I was there. In fact, I didn't see one person the whole time. Maybe it was too hot...about 90 degrees at the bottom of the lifts and still at least 75 up top. I went through 5 or 6 water bottles.

HAHA! You poor thing! You should have taken the trail to the ski hut and be faced with slogging up the bowl, at least it would have been shorter - I think. Better yet, wait until there's snow to do it again. :)
