Hike up here several times, Refreshing and spledid views. Taking the Gem lake route offers a few places for your dog to cool off.

Solo Winter Climb  Sucess!

Great climb, could only get a mile up the Trapper Peak Trail access road, snowshoed from there up to the trail head. Then slogged up to the summit the next day. Beautiful views!

Exhausting snowshoe trek...  Sucess!

Was able to drive up the Forest road partway to the trailhead for Trail 133. Snowshoed up the steep slopes from the Forest road and then followed the basic trail route, although I couldn't find the trail in the 4-foot deep snow. The snow was windblown and consolidated at the summit area, so it was easier than snowshoeing down below in the DEEP powder. It was sunny all day--I made it to the summit just as the sun was setting, then coasted back down in the dark in record time.

Well done! What time did you begin? We are planning a mid-Feb climb up the Northeast Couloir. We are gonna head up Baker Creek. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks. tm

Re: Exhausting snowshoe trek...

Tom, how did the Northeast Couloir go? I'm thinking of climbing again via that route. Any avalanche hazards?

Re: Exhausting snowshoe trek...

Hey, sorry about the non-reply...I didn't see your comment until today. (Is there a way to have SP email me when I receive a comment?) Anyway, I started around 8 AM Mountain time, so it was about a 9-hour climb until sunset. (I don't always keep in shape, and I had terrible tendinitis after that trek!)

Via Standard Trail  Sucess!

Well, sort of successful. My girlfriend and I made it to East Trapper. I'm very proud of her though. She has a hip condition which bothered her the whole way and it was her first Mountain. The view was amazing. I never thought I would be able to stand on top of the Mountain I gazed at every day as kid growing up in the Bitteroot Valley.

Cloudy Summit  Sucess!

The weather wasn't co-operating and our views were not as hoped. Made some good time hiking and enjoyed the company. Will definitely make another attempt to get those anticipated views.

Standard shrouded route  Sucess!

Wasn't much of a view in the clouds but I love the feeling of isolation that they bring

E Trapper and Trapper  Sucess!

Easy trail through lush forest. Went to East Trapper first, then up to main summit. Spectacular view of Bitterroot jagged ridges, lakes, forest, and rock glacier beneath North face. Could see the Missions, Pintlers, Beaverheads, and Bighorn Crags too. Great rugged mountain with nice approach.
