Bluebird December day  Sucess!

Several inches of new snow overnight made for a beautiful hike through the forest. 360 views of surrounding peaks though Jeffy wasn't willing to show us his summit.

Climbed with Sons  Sucess!

Climbed with my two boys 9 and 7. Great short hike with amazing views of Mt Jeff from the summit. Boca cave is a bit tricky to get to compared with the trail to the summit but worth it for the view of Mt Jeff framed by the cave entrance.

Gorgeous  Sucess!

Excellent hike. Boca Cave was really cool. The trail is mostly shaded which was nice. There appears to be vast areas of huckleberries along the trail, though they were not ripe yet. Now one of my favorite hikes of the area.

Cool features  Sucess!

Weather was cool and overcast , preventing any views, but Boca Cave was a nice feature to see.

Fun  Sucess!

This was fun and easy. Scrambled down to Boca Cave and had a blast exploring this feature. Cloud cover prevented a good look at Jeff or Hood.

Easy, Rewarding  Sucess!

Easy, accessible hike off of 22. It is totally worth the side trip to the cave, but the views of Mt. Jeff (and Hood and 3FJ and Sisters) are spectacular.

Triangulation Peak  Sucess!

This was a nice mountain to hike to after a long scenic drive in the morning. One of the best views of Mount Jefferson. Met a group of people who had basically sat on the summit for hours talking. I left to find the Boca Cave and check out some of the spires in the area.

last of 3-TPT  Sucess!

With my son. Last of 3 mountains this day. Didn't have time to scramble down to Boca cave, we didnt summit until just past 8PM. A fun hike, first mile and a half is almost flat, the last .6 is a good workout. Great views of Jefferson from the summit rock, and an uncommon one of 3FJ from the N. A big tree blocks the trail about halfway up, but easy to climb over it. And there is a huge anthill about a minute from the TH, i've never seen a bigger one. A nice hike and a great evening.

What an awesome hike. (I know that word is ubiquitous, but it truly was awesome.) The view from the top was great.

Took trail 3373 from the trailhead. First half was a leisurely walk through old growth forest. Second half is a series of switchbacks (about 6) that had my heart pumping by the time I reached the summit.

It is definitely worth the trouble to find Boca Cave.

Some accounts say the trail to the cave starts a few hundred yards back on the trail from the summit, but it seemed more like a few hundred feet rather than yards. If you are at the summit, look about halfway between Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson. The trail goes right past the other high spot in that location. Follows the treeline down a short scramble. Took me about 15 minutes from summit to cave.

I'm surprised that this hike isn't featured in more guides. Maybe that's why it wasn't very busy for a beautiful Saturday morning. (The 100 hikes in Central Oregon Cascades book merely mentions the hike - doesn't really give any more detail than is on this site.)

I decided to do this on my way back from Maxwell Butte. It is a pretty easy hike to the top. Great view of Jefferson. I could also see from hood to south sister, but it was pretty hazy. There was a fairly well established trail to Boca Cave. The cave was by far the neatest part of this hike. It was a nice cool place to rest after a day in the hot sun.

View was spectacular. Still patches of snow on the ground covering parts of the trail. Was approximately 75 F at the summit and a bit windy. The six of us, and a puppy meandered around to Boca Cave and played around for about 15 minutes. All in all, a fun hike although we would have never found Boca Cave without Scott's expertise.

Route Climbed: Triangulation trail. Date Climbed: October 18, 2003  Sucess!

Really nice hike, pretty flat for the most part, then a sudden surge to the top. Got to the top so quick I could have sworn I had to keep going, but nope that was it.

Of course I didn't have a trail book so I never did get to find Boca Cave, now that I see Brian's summit log, it looks like a scramble down from the top. After I reached the summit, I hiked back down to the trail intersection and followed the lower trail looking for the cave, thought I saw it and tried to go "bushwhacking" but only ended up in some lovely Devil's Club. So I decided to bag it and go back home. Just means I have another reason to go back besides the awesome view of Jefferson.

Neat hike. Tried to scramble onto Spire Rock but it would be a technical climb and I did not have any gear or pro with me. Scrambled down to Boca Cave, very cool framed view of Jefferson.
