true summit of Yellow Mountain - Trails Illustrated topo map
On the National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps of Glacier National Park (both the park-wide and Many Glacier regional versions), the highest point labeled on Yellow Mountain is 8,766 feet. However, anyone who has been to Yellow Mountain will tell you the next point east is higher, and USGS topos confirm that the highest point is actually 8,966 feet.
Note that J. Gordon Edwards also references the 8,766 foot summit in A Climber's Guide to Glacier National Park. His route description goes to the true and higher summit, so it appears he simply had the elevation wrong.
I have taken the liberty to mark up the Trails Illustrated Many Glacier topo map with the correct summit, marked here with a red 'X'.
