Re: Fantastic...

Thank you Anya. The subjects in my photos don't run away, and don't require talking to. They just sit there and wait for anyone to show up and take their photos. I would give anything to produce one photo like any one of yours.
A compliment from you means the world to me.
Happy climbing,

That is a great picture Marc!

Re: Wow!

Thank you Eric. I'm sorry I wasn't very original here. I had seen the post cards of this shot before, and I just wanted one of my own. There are, however, a few differences. I am taking the shot tall in order to show the top of the arch and some of the sky. I positioned Turret Arch a little
better than the post card, and I had the snow on my side.

Thanks for the visit Eric,
Happy climbing,

Re: very creative

Thank you Radek. I wish I could take credit for the idea. I had seen a post card of this exact shot. I just had to have one of my own, but improve upon it. All other shots of this I had seen were taken wide. Mine is tall and it shows the top of the north Window. I also had the snow on my side.
The hardest part was to solo climb on frozen rocks in the back to get into position.
Glad you like it,

Did you know your not allowed to go to the position where you took this pic? dont worry I do it too, you just need to stay off the cryptobiotic soil. This is a classic photo first found by Tom Till. Its hard to get the whole North Window in it (I use a 10mm lens) but I like the angle you used, I didnt think of that. And yes the solo climb is fun when covered with ice especially hauling camera gear up there, its funny how there is a perfect spot for your tripod on the top of the climb huh.

Re: Classical

Sorry, I had no idea I couldn't go there. Well, I took two cameras and took about thirty shots. I guess they will last me for a life time. I should have left the second camera with my wife. She told me that my shot of standing on the icy pedestal would have been great, but it was too late and I didn't want to go back.

Re: I love

Thank you Barb,
I took about thirty shots of this view, and I liked this one the most because it shows the top of the arch and a little bit of the sky.
Thank you for the visit and the compliment.
p.s. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Excellent shot!

Marc, this is a beauty!

Postcard idea or not, I think this is an original!

The snow really is a plus.

Re: Excellent shot!

Thank you Roxy. you are very kind. I feel very lucky that there was snow on the ground along with very cold temps.
I took about a thousand photos in Arches, Zion and Canyonlands. I have snow in all the shots. Is that lucky or what!!
Thank you for the visit,

I always like "desert" views that contain snow!

Marcsoltan - Jun 9, 2009 9:34 am - Hasn't voted

Re: Interesting

Deserts of the south west are generally reddish in color. You add a bit of green vegetation, throw in some snow and blue sky, you get the best color combo for photography.
Thank you for the visit Charles,

Fantastic Pic

What a great shot! Love the snow against the red desert against azure sky. Love it.

Re: Fantastic Pic

Thank you Dan. I feel lucky to have been there during a cold spell and some snow on the ground. Getting in position on icy rocks was a bit scary.
Happy climbing,

Another Great Photo

I couldn't login to SP for a few weeks! It's great to be back and see your photos again! Thanks Marc

Re: Another Great Photo

Welcome back Fereidoun.

Glad you like my photo of Turret Arch seen through North Window. Unfortunately, the idea wasn't mine. I had seen a post card of this shot. But, unlike the post cards, I wanted to show the sky. And a little bit of snow helped a great deal as well.
Thanks for the visit,
