We also drove in from Morenci by turning west onto signed Lower Eagle Creak Road above town. The first 5 miles to a mine are very well graded. Then you have to ford a river which was low on our visit. Beyond the river the road because much rougher and rockier and has some steep section. We got to within 1.5 miles of pass 5892 where a very nasty (a couple bars missing) castle guard prevented us from driving further.
The hike itself is very straightforward and the views at the top are outstanding.

In from Morenci
Drove Honda in from Morenci, managed to get to perhaps
4800 feet enroute to pass 5892, but road a bit rough
for passenger car.
