Geology!
Very interesting features, fractures and failures. Make sure you stop at the FrankSlide liquor store, a small, mom and pop place with obscure and interesting offerings.
Interesting scrambling between the first peak and the true summit. Lots of possible routes through all the huge fractures from the slide. And all that kept going through my head at points were the words "geologic time includes now!" It was a typically windy Crowsnest day - there were many ravens enjoying some time riding the updrafts. The view of how far the debris travelled from the slide is fascinating.

Fun outing. Great views in all directions. Did the whole ridge walk. Interesting looking into the large fishers along the summit ridge. Hoping to day was not the day for more movement. Worth the minimal effort involved. The crux was just finding the tail head. There are some rocks painted with yellow paint (mustard yellow) that mark the trail beginning. But the paint has no shape to in the fall it looks just like moss or a growth rather than a trail marker from a distance. The trail starts on the right once you descend the gully just below the parking area. To find the lane that leads to this look right while you are on 15th just as you approach 135 ave. it is easy to miss if you are looking the wrong way. A local showed me where to park my car closer to the start. Once I got that all sorted out it was a done deal.

Worth repeating
I've been fascinated by Frank's Slide since childhood, so my curiosity about this mountain had been building. It did not disappoint - the fractures in the upper ridge are incredible and provide sustained and interesting scrambling. The views were amazing for a small peak. I had the bonus of seeing two bald eagles near the first summit as well.

West Side
Went back on July 7, 2008 and climbed this mountain via the NW ridge. I scrambled north all the way to the heli-pad.

We attempted to climb this mountain, in July 2006, on it's west side, but found it was too steep, so we were not able to summit.
It took me 3+/- hours to ascend and descend 3000+/- feet on decent ground. The first summit is good for the kids, the 2nd one is where the education is and worth going for. If you stay to the left, it makes the scrambling more interesting between summits. Staying to the right is easier trekking. A good family outing.
