"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Two for OneHad a fun day of Class 4 up a NW chute from Francis Lake, slog the north ridge, tag Pk 13270 and enjoyed a bit more of a scramble to 12Flags summit. Descended a northern chute to the lovely long boulder field.

Exciting DayI hiked past Francis Lake and ascended the snowfield and a couloir in the cirque north of 12 Flags, then gained the west ridge and followed that to the summit. The original register isn't there. The current one was placed in 2008.
I descended the east face gully closest to the summit and took a dip in one of the Tamarack Lakes. What a wild, primitive place. I half expected to see a dragon flying around. I did pass within about 50 meters of four bighorn ewes. They didn't even mind that I was there.

Turned backAfter doing Morgan headed over to 12 Flags, traversed the narrow ridge to a tall rock which required a traverse along some crappy loose rock about 100 feet below summit, being by myself and with little beta on whether the route would get better I backed off...trip report is HERE

From MorganDay 2 of SC13. To descend, I headed west on the ridge and took the first chute to the north. Great scree ski.

Fun ridge climb to the south! With Morgan during Sierra Challenge, including a traverse on a knife edge 4th class ridge heading to Broken Finger, bailed right at the base of broken finger peak after having traversed the very fun ridge because of thunderstorms.

Sierra Challenge Day 2Made the easy traverse over from Mt. Morgan then descended back to Rock Creek Lake. Great weather.

Traverse from Mt. MorganClimbed this one after Morgan thinking it was Broken Finger Peak. Happy to discover it had been featured as an entry on Bob Burd's 2013 Sierra Challenge. Ridge from Morgan is class 3 with exposure, which makes things interesting. Views are as good as they can get with a bigger summit nearby. Hauled ass back to Rock Creek Lake as smoke from the Aspen Fire started blanketing LLV and areas around.
