Route Climbed: Twin Sisters Trail Date Climbed: June 30, 2004  Sucess!

June 2004 was my first visit to Colorado, and Twin Sisters was the first long hike I did there. Climbed with Joanne Corson and Martha Cabeen. Hike was not too difficult (though tough on Joanne's and my Michigan legs), but we started late and were chased off summit by approaching storm. Thus we were not able to go to the eastern summit, and the usually spectacular view was washed-out gray mist. It rained and hailed steadily on the way down, and we were happy to change clothes and dry off in the Lily Lake center (staff there were great!).

This was a wonderful introductory hike for RMNP. We hiked to Chasm Lake two days later, and Twin Sisters provided a great warm up. Not satisfied with this brief, delicious taste of the mountains (hail and all), I am moving to CO in August 2005, and look forward to climbing Twin Sisters again.

This was the first mountain I had ever hiked. It was a huge

thrill for a 12 year old kid from Missouri. There used to be a camp at the base of the mountain. Two people lived in a fire tower on the summit.

Route Climbed: The path behind Aspen Lodge Date Climbed: August 76 and 77  Sucess!

My first 11 thousander. Pretty mellow climb. Did it before breakfast one time. My wife would have been very angry had I missed one of the Aspen Lodge breakfasts. The place was very cool but not cheap. Climbed this several times.

Really great hike. I took my snow shoes and used them on the way up, but they weren't really needed. Trail was pretty well packed, but the shoes were nice for traction. First winter summit for me, and first snowshoe adventure, so it took me a while to get to the top (about 3 1/2 hours) and I didnt get the great views of RMNP because it was shrouded in cloud cover, but great views looking east!!

Great hike, short and easy.

Visibility was not too good, but there was not much snow on the trail.

Had a wonderful (15min) talk with Mrs. Roach on the summit. -- You never know who you might meet in the mountains!

Great day. Many, many people on the trail and even more on the summit. Had the eastern summit to myself, though.

Our first hike post-Blizzard of '03. Thankfully, someone had already broken trail through the trees. Fabulous views of the Diamond!! A trip report is available here.

Solo climb on my last day in Colorado. Great views of Longs and a pretty easy hike. Saw a huge elk on the trail and he wouldn't move. Took out the camera and he got shy and left.

I showshoed this one with my sister. Weather was great, though it was windy above the treeline. We encountered maybe two other hikers. The snow petered out at the treeline, so we stashed the 'shoes and continued to the summit. The view of Longs Peak is a classic.

Nice early season hike with great views of Longs. I got rained on the whole way down but it was a good day regardless. I would definitely do this again for someone new to hiking or for an early season hike.

Simply awesome views of Longs Peak east face. It is the same view that you get from Rte 7 (between Meeker and Lady Washington) but about 2500 feet higher so you can really see what's what back there. This would probably be the optimal place outside the boulderfield to get sunrise photos. Also sweeping views of Estes Park and RMNP, and some great front range views on the summit of the 2nd sister (short scramble). Prepare for windy conditions on top.

Snow is virtually non existant on the trail now.

Great mountain. The summit area is pretty fun. This mountain is a great vantage point for sunrise photos of Longs Peak, and sunset photos of the continental divide.

My first time up, I got paid to hike it (RMNP trail Crew). The second time, I raced t-storms to the summit and just barely won.

This was a really fun way to start out a New Year, with a group from the Colorado Mountain Club. The day was clear, very windy on the top, but exhilerating!
