Emerald & Magdalene (aka Silver King) from MO Gulch  Sucess!

Dayhiked these two from Missouri Gulch. Set a personal best for distance and gain in a day. I passed on unranked Iowa.

from Clohesy Lake 4WD TH-West slopes  Sucess!

Combined Silver King with Emerald and paid the price as I didn't do any research on the easiest route. I knew the north ridge wouldn't go, but didn't know you could drop off the Emerald saddle and go up via the n.e. ridge. Ended up going up 1300' of steep, loose scree on the west face to the false summit. Not recommended! This after sidehilling on nasty talus from Emerald. Couldn't enjoy the views due to an approaching storm.

The Long Way  Sucess!

We climbed Silver King Peak by the standard Pine Creek approach. There was almost no snow and the only major challenge we had was navigating the ice covered trail in the first 3 miles. We completed this hike in 10 ½ hours round trip. The views were incredible!!!

NE Ridge from Clohesy Lake  Sucess!

"Silver King Peak" is a relatively easy hike from Clohesy Lake. After reaching the Emerald - Silver King saddle, its only necessary to lose about 300 feet to reach Silver King's NE ridge. A blanket of new snow made the talus on the ridge treacherous and I took a few nasty, painful spills on the way down. The views of the surrounding 14ers were spectacular. Climbed UN 13,492A afterwards.

Cloyses Lake access  Sucess!

Was able to climb this one as a day trip by driving to Cloyses Lake and hiking the Pear Lake trail. From 12750 on the ridge towards Emerald there is a good talus bench that can be used to reach a small col on the Emerald-Silver King ridge. I then dropped into Missouri Basin and traversed to Silver King Lake and up the NE ridge. I would say its 11 miles and about 4000' vertical.
