Route Climbed: Unknown - standard Date Climbed: August 31, 1997
I forgot about this one! I believe one of the other summit logs say that Lincoln/Democrat/Bross were my first fourteener encounters, but how could I forget my freshman year of high school, travelling with a friend's family and returning to find out that the world had lost a saint and a princess. That's about all I remember about this one.
Route Climbed: East Slopes from Nellie Creek 4WD Date Climbed: August 3rd, 2002
Camped at Nellie Creek TH around 11,440 feet or so. It rained all night, and we climbed in clouds/mist the entire way. We had no view at the summit due to the clouds, so no picture of Wetterhorn or Matterhorn.

The plan this day was to summit both Uncompagre and Wetterhorn. Started out at 6:00am and reached the summit of Uncompagre at 10:40am. It was a long hike but very easy and a spectacular summit with some amazing cliffs to look over. Left the summit at 11:15am and headed to Wetterhorn. We got to around 13,000 ft and suddenly a lightning storn blew in and forced us to retreat back to camp. Wetterhorn would have to wait until the next day.

Even though I have a 4x4 pickup truck, I would not to drive it up to trailhead. Went with a friend who had a suped up land rover. In the top 10 list of most beautiful 14ers in Colorado!

Got to be the best solo climb I've done. The weather was outstanding and the trail was great. Only a small amount of snow. The scramble near the summit was a surprise. I didn't look over the north face as some folks on the summit did. I got a rush just thinking about it. I still do.

Great hike and snow climb - followed trail until snow fields offered a direct route, steep in places. Then an easy scramble on the back of the peak to the summit area.

Long long day from Matterhorn. I would like to see somebody do Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre in one day like the guidebooks say.
Just me and my brother in our party. About 20 to 30 on the summit. A couple of bottlenecks on the way up and down, makes me nervous. Looked like a scene from Switzerland the big green upsloping hillside/plateau where the trail really starts to head up.
We had beautiful weather. We started from Matterhorn Basin about 6am and were on top by 1230 noon. We rushed down(our first Colorado weather experience was the Maroon Bells loop) to beat the storms. Sky was clear as a bell all day. We got toasted on the 6 or 7 miles back. Definitely go the Nellie Creek route.

A nice climb. Got a little scramble in on the backside of the mountain approaching the summit. A nice view of a 700' vertical drop off from the summit.

This was my second climb of Uncompahgre, the first having been done less than a month before. It was such a fun hike we used it to give some of our NY friends a taste of Colorado 14er climbing. The day was picture-perfect and the hike was successful and enjoyed by all. We car camped in a large meadow about 1/2 mile from the Nellie Creek TH.
