Meetup.com Fierce Planet hike. We started from the 4WD trailhead. The pace was pretty fast: we started around 6AM and got back to the trailhead before noon. The group got pretty strung out along the trail, but everyone made the summit. It was windy at the top. Pretty easy for a 14er, with awesome scenery. The next day we were going to do Handies Peak from Grizzly Gulch, so a few of us drove through Capitol City and over Engineer and Cinnamon Passes to the trailhead. More great scenery along that drive.
Just beautiful the whole way. I got a couple of nice shots of Wetterhorn.
I did four 14ers in five days. Not too frantic.
Thanks to a trailhead above 11k feet, it was a short morning jaunt. Cool peak, but too short. Trip report
Nice hike, relatively short. Fun glissading!
great hike, nice views...
climbed uncompahgre w/milburn via its southernmost west gully on a wavering may weather day. a mixed bag of snow, driving wind and calm bluebird skies had us constantly changing layers! the gully itself was a fine, fairly low-angled climb, albeit a bit tiring in the top 500' without a reprieve from kicking steps.
slipped up the nearby 13er broken hill solo afterwards before weaving my way through the snow-covered iron beds on the way out.
Love the area, also did Wetterhorn and Matterhorn
A distinguished hunk of rock
Hiked up Uncompahgre, followed by Wetterhorn from the Matterhorn Creek TH.
Much easier then what was expected. But then again, we also had a path to follow from a good friend who was up there 2 days previous! Great weather!!! Very atypical for January
7/2/05 - Climbed from the Matterhorn Creek TH after making a trip up Wetterhorn. Long day.
1/11/10 - Climbed from camp in Matterhorn Creek. This was day 3 of a 3 day trip (packed in on day 1, climbed Wetterhorn on day 2, climbed Uncompahgre and packed out on day 3).
Eat lunch with your feet over the cliff!
From the Nellie Creek TH with Mountain Girl. One of my favotite 14er hikes, beautiful approach.
I did this as part of a 3 day backpack trip. It was the first 14,000 ft mountain I had been on in CO and I was shocked at the number of people on the trail. Of course it was a holiday weekend, which made it worse.
Solo in the clouds. There was a couple inches of snow on the summit and northern aspects. I climbed from Nellie Creek TH.
What a beautiful day with awesome veiws up there. My favorite one so far.
My first Colorado 14er! Had to walk from the bottom of the road since I came on a motorcycle. See my Trip Report about doing seven 14ers in eight days.
Climbed via the South Slopes from Nellie Creek. A great hike through the Uncompahgre Highlands to the rugged summit plateau. The trail was in good condition and the crowds minimal. The views of Wetterhorn Peak and the neighboring San Juan peaks were excellent.
Climbed Uncompahgre Peak from Nellie Creek TH (second time). Great weather in the morning after raining all night. Started at 5:40am and was back to the car 9:50am. Nice hike, great views.
09/05/2010: Hiked to the summit of Uncompahgre with my wife and a 5 year-old son (this is his first 14-er!) from Nellie Creek TH. Clear skies, but a little bit windy at the top. Great day in San Juans!
Super scenic hike with my son and dog.
