Really steep hike going up Reitsteig. A lot of mist too. All the sweat was worth it getting a nice cold pint in the pub near the summit.
Cute bartender gave me the beer for free since I forgot to bring cash :)
The path is slightly exposed on Dopplersteig. Was insane in the heavy mist. Did some trailrunning on both the ascent and descent. You'll find some freezing cold Austrian Spring water on the Dopplersteig. Saw lots of deer too !

Absolutely Gorgeous
Climbed up the Dopplersteig out of Fürstenbrunn, Austria. The views were absolutely spectacular and breathtaking. Probably one of the most beautiful places I have been in my entire life. I would move to the Salzberg area tomorrow if I could. Definitely grab a beer at the little place in the saddle up top. We ended up taking the cable car down due to running out of time. Views from the gondola were also unreal. Can't wait to go back to the area.

Snow in August :(
Lift up. Fog, snow and a little rain on top :(. And this on August 10th? Hiked past Salzburger Hochtron and Berchtesgadener Hochtron to Störhaus. Jägertee! Then hiked all the way back to Untersberg liftstation. Off course all the clouds lifted in the afternoon.
No gear for a winter climb (was studying abroad!) so just hiked up. Gorgeous day, especially love how the Austrians have bars on top so you can grab a beer!

From Fuchsturm in Marktschellenberg
I hiked up the trail to the Toni-Lenz-Hütte, then visited the Schellenberger Eishöhle, continued on the Mittagsschartensteig, then reached the Salzburger Hochthron and Geiereck, from where I took the seilbahn down. It was still early so I then hitchhiked to the Almbachklamm nearby, also beautifull place!
I've been so many times up on the Salzburger Hochthron, in all seasons, that I can't even count them any more. And the route Geiereck-Mittagsscharte-Berchtesgadener Hochthron-Stöhrhaus-Maria Gern I've done at least four, if not five times by now (not in mid-winter, of course!). Once I used the trail from the Stöhrhaus directly down to Hallthurm. I don't think I'll do that another time, at least not going down. It's a painfully relentlessly steep descent! I also have gone up the Untersberg via the Marktschellenberg - Toni-Lenz-hut - Schellenberger Sattel - Dopplersteig - Zeppezauerhaus trail, which is quite a spectacular path, although the presence of the cable-car disturbs a bit the scenery...
