Upper Elwha Valley and Bailey Range

Upper Elwha Valley and Bailey Range

This picture is taken from the Observation Point on the Griff Creek Trail, Olympic NP, early March 2009. It looks up into the upper Elwha Valley beyond the Glines Canyon Dam that creates Lake Mills. I'm not confident of the identification, but the peak at center would seem to be Mount Carrie (6995') at the head of the Cat Creek drainage. The mountains on the left are in the Bailey. Only Mount Carrie has a page on SP, and the photos are all from the other side. The Glines Canyon Dam will be removed under the Elwha River Restoration Act of 1992. This things take time, apparently.

Re: Wow

Thanks!

From where I was standing, Fairchild and Carrie should be nearly in line, on the left of the Cat Creek drainage.

Anyway, I enjoyed being in the Elwha area when no one else was there. I understand it's crowded in summer.
