nice picture . . .. . . if not for the hat!
Hope you had kids along to enjoy the snake.

Re: nice picture . . .I'll ignore the hat comment...my heart goes out to you if you're an Irish fan...
Yeah, my boys were along with us. I had to do some convincing to get them to touch it. Scored myself some "Super Dad" points though picking up a "big, creepy" snake! :)

Re: nice picture . . .I once spent a day in Missouri convincing my son that water snakes were harmless, and then he went off and found a copperhead. "It didn't look like the water snakes, dad, but I figured it was OK...."

Re: nice picture . . .That was one of my biggest fears when we lived down in NC. Luckly, there aren't too many this far north!

SnakesI've happened across many copperheads and rattlers here in NC, but have never felt as if I was in any danger. You just have to watch where you're going.
BTW, I also have never been to the Rockies. In fact, the only western peak I've ever been on was Mount Palomar in southern California.

Re: SnakesI can't believe in all my time on the trail down there...especially with all the waterfalls I visited I never once spotted a snake. Of course, this may just because I wasn't paying close enough attention....
I'm glad I'm not alone on the Rockies thing...I was kinda waiting for an anonymous message stating "I'm sorry but since you've never been on a 'real' mountain we are going to kindly ask you to remove yourself from the SP community...you have no business here." :)
