I don't quite know what to say. This picture was taken on the Lac Blanc (Aiguilles Rouges - Chamonix valley) by my friend Jean Afanassieff, but I can't remember the year. For long I have had a liking for cold waters and I just thought this photo was fun. It is true though that training to resist to cold was useful for winter ascent in those days. But today with the incredible speed of the young climbers, all this has become pointless.
Even with speed things can go wrong and force a night or more in unexpected conditions. In that scenario the one(s) with the strongest constitution and mental toughness will prevail.
I think it's the SPEEDO several of us are hung up on...
