Not so well known but higher than some

The peak in the middle above the Armadillo is the South Peak and the peak on the right is Baxter Peak. They are to scale since they are in the same photo. From the south, South Peak looks higher but here Baxter Peak looks (and is somewhat higher) The vertical scale is 2350 feet.

Frederic Church's favorite too

This view was sketched in oil by Frederic Church in 1877. Church painted Katahdin several times and one or two are held at Yale.
