Val Cellina

Val Cellina

The beautiful Val Cellina divides the Southern Carnic Pre-Alps from the rest of the group. Today, it is part of the natural parc. Once through it the road went, connecting Po river plane ( Maniago) with Barcis, Claut and Cimolais, being already among the mountains. Today that road is destroyed and the new one goes through the mountain (M. Fara). April 5th, 2008.

I remember

very well that road, it was very "adventurous", with great views of the deep canyon of the river Cellina and of the dam of Barcis. The new one is not that beautiful, but is very good and fast.

Re: I remember

Hey, Fabrizio, do you know how passable is the old road today. We were late and because the road looked forbidden, we went only approximately 45 minutes upwards. Then it was late already and we returned. Can you go through the upper part as easilly as through the lower part? I guess it's very nice in the upper part too.

Re: I remember

I don't think it's practicable by car. But I think it should be open for hikers and bikers. Anyhow it's better to ask in Barcis before.

Re: I remember

No chance to go by car! The road is closed at both ends and there are even signs that it's forbidden for hikers.

Re: I remember

In the website of the Riserva Naturale della Forra del Cellina they say that the area is closed. They are working to put the road in safe conditions.
