"South Timpanogos" aka the 2nd Summit, is only 27 feet lower than Mt Timpanogos and has over 400 feet of prominence, but isn't honored with an official name. It is a steep, crumbly pile of unstable talus and scree (well, much like Timp itself, only without a trail), but it doesn't take long to get there from the glacier saddle, and rewards you with views like this. So I see the lower part of the snowfield

is all the way to the lake. How does the upper part look, skiing-wise?

It looks great for skiing! It reaches nearly to the ridge crest all along the saddle, and is still pretty thick up there. I was very close to bringing skis on this trip, but I guess wimped out considering I'd have to carry them to two summits (since Bomber Peak was in the plans) or else leave them at the crowded saddle for the out-and-back to Bomber. The ice-axe-less glissade was exciting enough :)
