Re: Forest

As you may know, the balsam forests on the peaks of the Black Mountains were all but destroyed in the past couple of decades by the ravages of acid rain and introduced insect pests. But the seedlngs have come back and do not, so far, seem to be suffering from the effects that killed their recent ancestors. The groves are doing well and many of the trees are now fifteen to twenty feet tall and are slowly swallowing up the dead trunks of the old forest. Once again, the Black Mountains are black.
